White Orchid Island
The White Orchid Foundation is a project that provides a restricted access sanctuary for girls rescued from the sex trade. Our project intends to purchase or acquire Islands and build centres for the rehabilitation and education of these children. They will be known as ‘The White Orchid Centres’.
Each centre aims to be Eco-Friendly and self-sustainable. We anticipate that permaculture, water and green energy will be the driving forces to preserve the presence of each centre.
The White Orchid Centres
The White Orchid Centres will initially be designed to house 100 children, where the children can have freedom and security they need.
The centres aim to:
Ø provide a safe heaven
Ø educate
Ø rehabilitate, providing medical treatment and counselling
Ø be self-sustainable
Safety and security:
Sanctuary communities and rehabilitation centres will be built on restricted access islands. Islands provide the safest, most self-contained, psychologically beneficial location for the rehabilitation of sexual abuse victims. Alternatively, sanctuary communities can be located in remote locations, many miles away from any other habitation. It is tantamount to the rehabilitation of these children that they believe and understand that they will never be returned to the sex trade.
All staff information will be kept strictly confidential and only government officials will be allowed certain personnel details of people within The White Orchid Foundation.
Sanctuary grounds will be protected through CCTV, while buildings will be protected with alarm systems.
Education:
The White Orchid Centres will develop an education structure to enable the children to grow, learn and develop. The White Orchid Foundation aims to provide these children with a variety of subjects that match key learning criteria agreed upon by local education institutions. Individual learning needs will be addressed accordingly and every child is given the opportunity to learn and learn and grow.
Rehabilitation:
Rehabilitation of sexually abused victims is paramount to the success of The White Orchid project. One pre-defined plan for all children cannot be adopted. Each individual will be assessed, counselled and treated based on their individual experiences and environments in which they came from.

Group counselling, individual therapies, trust exercises, team building and other medians will be methods of rehabilitation. Only the best practices will be utilised to ensure each child is provided with the best care.
A big sister program will also be adopted. For more information see the Big Sister section.
No men will be allowed on the island in the first year. After this time, males will be reintroduced into centre operations.
Self-sustainability:
Self-sustainability will be a key feature of each island sanctuary. Permaculture, water and green energy will be the driving forces to preserve the presence of each school.
Permaculture – food will be grown at each island sanctuary that will reduce long term costs, promote nutrition and allow self-reliance of individual centres.
Water – water will be provided by a local spring if suitable, alternatively desalination and rainwater catchment are other options available.
Power – various methods of gathering green renewable energy will be available and assessed based on the environment at each sanctuary.

Below is an example of a possible White Orchid Centre.
In no way is this project simply a rehabilitation centre; it will be a place for these children to live. All avenues will be explored to make sure the Island is Eco-friendly, that way it will not only be a project that benefits sexually abused children but also preserves self-sustainability over the long term. The White Orchid Foundation will always be focused on the rehabilitation and education of children rescued from the sex trade. It will also continuously review the best practices to end child prostitution and trafficking.
The focus for now is locating and negotiating islands and other locations internationally with government / NGO’s / businesses / individuals for the White Orchid sanctuaries and centres. This will be an ongoing aspect of The White Orchid Foundation.
